Cascade Volcano Tour

June 24, 2018
Start: Smart’s Mountain
Stop: Seattle

I’m up with the sun and in the garden by 630am. I work for two hours watering and picking raspberries as the sweat rolls down my face. Breakfast is a buffet of leftovers. Biscuit and gravy, egg scramble, pancakes soaked in butter and fresh fruit. Yazhi somehow knows that I’m leaving and comes in the house just before I leave for one last kitty hug.

My flight is delayed an hour but I’m lucky that I can fly out of the Charles Schultz Sonoma County airport which is only a 1.5 hour drive (one way) from Smart’s Mountain. Thanks for the ride Mom! The small plane turns North and I can see the current Lake County fires pumping smoke into the sky. Then it’s Mt. Shasta, Castle Crags, Mt. McLaughlin, Crater Lake, Mt. Thielsen, the Three Sisters, Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Hood, the Columbia Gorge, Mt. Adams, Mt. Saint Helens, Goat Rocks, Mt. Rainier. Thank you Cascadia Subduction Zone! And I’m smiling the biggest smile. I think I’m the only person on this plane that’s looking out the window with such joy. I imagine the trail between each volcanic button and relive all my PCT moments. I’m filled with gratitude for this blessed life.

Some Ninkasi Red IPA sets up Odin Brewery.
